England Homestay 2026 Feedback

Back at KIHS, classes have started and the 2nd Year Language Program has come to an end. Emotions are conflicting. While everyone is happy to be home, many are already missing the adventures they had in Bournemouth, UK. This year was attended by 25 students with the majority experiencing a long-haul flight and 2 weeks away from their parents for the first time. This meant the beginning of the trip was full of trepidation and nervous excitement.

The homestay experience was the first time many had to follow the lifestyle of another family. While this was challenging at the beginning, through growing confidence in their English ability, communicating the issues led to an enjoyable end to their time together with 84% reporting a positive experience. Many students and their families shed a tear when they brought the student to the school on leaving day. I’m sure life-long friendships were created during this time.

The classes did exactly what we at KIHS wanted them to do: prove to the students that their English ability is higher than our students think. The students reported they enjoyed the classes with 96% stating that they thought the classes were more than OK. The Student Reports written by the beet(*) teachers were full of positivity and praise for the excellent study-attitude KIHS students have, something we are proud of within the school. The students reported an improvement with 44% saying they improved, and a further 52% saying they may have improved. Since returning to classes for the second term, the English teachers have noticed an increase in confidence that is making the Speaking classes especially a pleasure to teach.

Finally, the cultural excursions to Jurassic Coast (56% satisfaction), Bath (76%), and London (80%) were fulfilling for the students, even though they were extremely physically demanding. The feedback points to students wanting to spend more time exploring the sights and going in museums in Bath and London. 68% said the evening activities where fun, especially the games nights where they could talk and play with friends from around the world in English without the pressure of being in class. One negative was that only 20% enjoyed the cycling experience. Due to bad weather, we had to change the day we went cycling to the day after London. This meant the students had no recovery time and were too tired.




In summary, the student had either a great time (92%) or good time (8%). Noone was negative about this year’s program, which is a win in itself. We will now start thinking about the summer of 2027, but with 92% recommending this trip to their juniors in 1st Year, it’s hard not to consider a return to the wonderful beach town of Bournemouth.

初めての海外というのもあり、何もかもが不安でしたが、実際イギリスに到着してホストファミリーと会ってたくさん話していくうちに自分から積極的に行動したり発言できるようになっていました。特にBEETでの授業で色んな国の生徒さんとかかわることができたのでいい経験になったなと思っています。ホームステイでは普段の生活とはガラッと変わった日々を送ることができ、その場所でのルールに従うことや適応していくことの大切さを自分の体で体験できたので非常に良かったです。色んな観光スポットもみんなで回ることができて非常に濃くて充実した二週間すこしだったなと思います。

ホストファミリーとの交流、授業などで英語を話さなければならない機会が多く、それが英語の特にスピーキングの上達にとても役立ったと思える。BEETでは、友達もでき、その友達と英語で話したり遊びに行ったりしたことがとても楽しかった。あと、BEETの午後のアクティビティもいろいろな種類があり、特にカラオケは国籍関係なくいろいろな国の友達同士で仲良く歌ったり踊ったりしたことがとてもいい経験になった。ほかにもホストマザーとワッツアップを使って話すことによって、英語での日常表現やメッセージでの会話表現を知れてよかった。

私の特に楽しかった経験は、ホストシスターと遊ぶことです。メイクをしてあげたり、ゲームを教えてもらったり、言葉が通じなくても楽しいという感情を共有できたことが分かりました。ホストファミリーとの意思疎通は難しいこともありましたが、めげずに話しました。また、ホストファミリーも私の話すスピードに合わせてくれて、誠意のある態度にとても胸をうたれました。そして、音楽祭にも連れて行ってもらいボーンマスでの良い思い出にもなりました。本当にホストファミリーには感謝しかないです。ありがとうございました！！！！

フライトが長くて疲れました。飛行機の中の音が気になってよく眠れませんでした。
授業はレベルが高くてついていくのが大変でしたが陽気なクラスメイトに囲まれて楽しかったです。ロンドンやバース観光はボーンマスよりイギリスの雰囲気を感じられて楽しかったです。ホームステイはほかの留学生とカップ麺を食べたりして楽しかったです。お弁当に入っていた丸かじりするすももがおいしかったです。

授業などでは文法やスピーキングなど、イギリスの訛りなどに苦労したが、学ぶことができました。その国独自の文化を学ぶことで人や生活様式に対する解像度などもあがり、日本の良さとイギリスの良さ両方の視点から物事を見れるようになりました。また、イギリスに行く前と後でいろんな人に話しかける行動力が身についたと思います。友達の作り方など、日本にない良さを身に着けることができました。
