As of 11th June, 2025, the Expo 2025 Osaka has seen 6 million visitors. Ten of those were the KIHS students who attended the Italian Ministry of Education and Merit (Scuola Futura Italia) event at the Italian Pavilion from Saturday 7th to Monday 9th of June.

現在開催している大阪・関西万博は2025年6月11日時点で600万人を超える来場者になっています。6月7日から9日にイタリアパビリオンで開催されたイタリア教育省主催の高校生対象のイベントに本校の生徒10名が参加しました。

※大阪府下の学校に通う生徒が招待されている「2025年日本国際博覧会児童生徒招待事業」とは別です。

The Event

The event brought together 15 Italian schools and two from Osaka. Our 10 students were put into one of 6 groups from multiple countries that worked together throughout the three-day event. Not only were friendships made, but they gained respect for the importance of English as a lingua franca (common language) – none of the Italians could speak Japanese, and visa versa.

このイベントには、イタリア各地から選抜された15校の高校生と、本校を含めた大阪府内2校の高校生が参加しました。参加した生徒たちは６つのグループに分かれ、３日間のイベントに参加しました。本校の生徒はイタリアの高校生との友情が芽生えただけでなく、共通言語である英語の重要性を再確認できたと感じました。

Student Voice : 私にとっては初めての経験であり、楽しむと同時に意思伝達をする難しさを感じました。ただ、友達もできたし、また同じようなイベントが開催されるのであれば是非参加したいです。

The Information

The first day included self-introductions and an exchange of ideas on the importance of food in society. The students were treated to a guided tour of the most popular Expo locations and some wonderful food at the Italian pavilion’s restaurant, Eataly.

初日は、自己紹介と社会における食の重要性についての意見交換が行われた。生徒たちは、今回の万博で最も人気のあるイタリアパビリオンをガイド付きで見学し、イタリアパビリオン内にあるレストラン「イータリー」で素晴らしい料理を堪能しました。

The students also has the chance to discuss sustainable business management with guest speakers from the various European and Italian governing bodies and Michelin Star restaurateurs.

このイベントに参加した高校生たちは、イタリアを含むヨーロッパの様々な団体の方やミシュランガイド掲載店のオーナーさん達と「持続可能な経営」についての話し合いを行いました。

Student Voice : I believe that experiencing my first Expo and making my first Italian friend in life was incredibly valuable. I’m grateful to have been given such an opportunity.

万博を初体験し、初めてイタリア人の友達ができたことは、たいへん貴重な経験だったと感じています。このイベントに参加できたことにとても感謝しています。

The Presentation

The groups worked on a project to create a new pavilion that would connect a culturally significant food for both Italy and Japan. The groups had mushrooms, rice, buckwheat, tea, Crucian carp, and medlars. After competing to win the food, the groups prepared for a 5-minute presentation on the pavilion design and experience the guests could expect inside.

「日本・イタリア両国の食文化にとって大切な食材をテーマにした新しいパビリオンを作る」ことをテーマに、各グループの生徒はプロジェクトに取り組みました。食材として選ばれたものは「キノコ」「米」「ソバ」「お茶」などで、各グループは食材をテーマにしたパビリオンのデザインとパビリオン内でできる体験コーナーについての５分間のプレゼンテーションの準備を行いました。

Student Voice : Joining a space where we could talk in English about food production and building new pavilions with people we had never met before and share our cultures with each other was very memorable for me.

初対面の人と食材について英語を用いて話し合って新しいパビリオンを考え、また互いの文化を理解しあう場に参加できたことは、とても思い出に残った。

On the final day, the presentations were judged by a team including Lorenzo Micheli (Education Specialist at Italian Ministry of Education), Andrea Geremicca (Director General of the European Institute of Innovation for Sustainability), Alberta Pettoello (Principal of Institute Marinoni of Udine), Prof. Carlo Alberto Pratesi (Professor at University of Rome, European Institute of Innovation for Sustainability), and the Mentors for the Campus Italia in Osaka.

最終日には、各グループのプレゼンテーションについて、イタリアを含むヨーロッパの専門家５名の審査員による投票が行われました。

With the votes in, attention moved to the stage where Mr Micheli announced the winning team; Team Rice and a win for KIHS students Theerada “Gammy” Mueangperm and Taiga Morita. These students have now been invited to be guests at the NEXTGEN AI International event held in Rome, Italy this autumn.

投票の結果を審査員長が発表し、本校生徒の「Gammy」と「Taiga」が所属した「米」をテーマにしたチームが優勝しました。この秋、イタリアのローマで開催される「NEXTGEN AI International」に招待される見込みだが、どのような方法の招待（日本からのインターネット通じて？）かは、まだ不明です。

Student Voice : Even with a mix of personalities, we could all agree to every topic which was given. This shows that no matter how different we all are, we’re able to come together and make something out of our own knowledge and experiences. Having gone to the Italian Event left a major impact on me. There was so many influential speakers to provide support throughout the program. It was a pleasure to have been able to participate with the Italians.

それぞれの個性は違えど、与えられたテーマを達成するため、全員が一致団結することができた。このことから、私たちが個々にどれだけ異なることがあっても、集まってそれぞれの知識や経験を生かすことで、それぞれが想像できなかったものを生み出すことができると感じた。このイベントに参加できたことで、私は大きく成長できたと思う。また、このイベントを通じて多くの専門家にサポートしていただき、イタリアの方々と参加できたことをうれしく思っています。

As the teacher who joined this event with the students, I am incredibly proud of how well our students were able to communicate with their peers and produce entertaining and informative presentations. It was also good for me to see our students step up as leaders and drive their team forward. I cannot help thinking that the KI curriculum is best suited to events like these and helps prepare student for their international futures.

最後に、このイベントに生徒と共に参加した教員として、本校の生徒がほかの生徒と上手にコミュニケーションをとり、楽しく、また有意義なプレゼンテーションができたことにとても誇りを持ちました。また、本校の生徒たちがリーダーとして、各チームを引っ張っていく姿を見られたことも印象に残りました。ＫＩＨＳのカリキュラムはこのようなイベントに合致し、生徒たちが将来国際的な場で活躍するときに役立つことは間違いないと感じました。
