Careers Advice – Graduate Honoka Koiso

The Long Homeroom for the 3rd Years this week was conducted by Honoka Koiso, a KIHS graduate attending Meiji University, Tokyo. She came to give our students advice about university applications, university life, and the decisions students are likely to make this year.

The talk began with Honoka introducing the path she has been taking to get her to where she is now. The students listened attentively and were impressed by what she had participated in during her KIHS life. As a member of the Student Council and our charity group; 0toOne, there were plenty the students could relate to their own life.

During her 2nd year of university, Honoka was selected to join the Internship program with the Disney corporation. The six-month program consisted of two roles in the Attractions and Merchandise departments. Working and living abroad, communicating daily in English, was an experience that would not be possible if she had stayed in Japan.

Finally, Honoka spoke about the good aspects of studying somewhere that has a strong international presence. She had made many friends from around the world who have broadened her understanding of the world. As she is enrolled on an International Relations course, interacting with peers from around the world has been important. It has also helped her at her part-time work as a tour guide in and around Tokyo.

This talk will hopefully inspire our students to push further into their university application process with more knowledge of what’s to come, and more desire to follow Honoka into the international communities of Japan’s university system.

今回、このような形で3年前に卒業した母校に戻ってお話ができた事、非常に嬉しく思います。在校生のみなさんは興味を持って話を聞いてくれていたのが印象的でした。授業後には、個別に進路についての質問や、私が今まで参加してきた団体や活動についての質問などをいただき、少しでも彼らの進路において選択の助けになっていたら嬉しいなと思います。
